Juneteenth, often known as Freedom Day, is a federal vacation in the US commemorating the emancipation of African American slaves. It’s celebrated yearly on June 19, the date the Union Military arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, with the information that the Civil Battle had ended and that the enslaved individuals have been now free.
Juneteenth has been celebrated because the late nineteenth century, and it grew to become a state vacation in Texas in 1980. In 2021, Juneteenth was lastly acknowledged as a federal vacation, making it the twelfth federal vacation in the US.
